Famous for its large elephant population, Udawalawe National Park is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to observe elephants in their natural habitat. Surrounded by grasslands, forests, and the scenic Udawalawe Reservoir, the park provides excellent safari opportunities to see elephant herds, water buffalo, crocodiles, monkeys, and numerous bird species. It is also home to the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, which focuses on the rehabilitation of orphaned elephants. Best time to visit: Year-round, with July to September offering excellent opportunities for elephant sightings.
